At the beginning of this practicum, I could notice five students which belong to basic level the reason that they could take this remedy classes was to improve their knowledge and clarify their doubts about English, but at the end of the classes I finished with four students. I believe that a particular student that called my attention was Dayana Recinos because she was interested during the classes, she assisted to each one, and also she always had a question about anything relate to lesson. Another thing that called my attention was she tried to participate and she did not be shy in front of the class, she is a brave girl. In the other hand, students presented some problems in some English skills such as reading, speaking, and writing. Reading, in this skill I included some activities like paragraph to read each other after that, they explained, expressed, and describe what they listened. Other thing was relate new vocabulary with paragraphs in order to get the main idea of the meaning of the words, and expressions or phrases. In addition to speaking, I created worksheets with situations in order to ask or answer questions, so they had time to describe, share their opinions, and so on according situations that teacher provided also I provided crumbed words to form questions or answers. In writing skill, I implemented grammar points in that they needed to write questions yes/no and Wh-questions, and organize sentences using worksheets. Also, they wrote some events of their life using timeline at the same time, I provided connecting words to link sentences in order to look as a paragraph. Finally, students practice new topics using activities that helped them to overcome their needs in order to implement new and previous lessons.
In my opinion, I consider that the first lesson that I taught I felt as a teacher because they were students that hoped to look a real teacher and not a practitioner. So in my mind, I illustrated the picture of a real teacher because they came to my class to teach new topics for them. But the real moment I felt as a teacher was during the topic "Present progressive" because the activities were very good and also the way, I developed the grammar chart was really good. I was able to explain that part of grammar and cover the doubts of students. In the other hand, I believe that school language should to help students in order to implement extra classes to cover all doubts of students that are in disadvantage and also planning extra homeworks to students in this way, teacher notices his/her students are working and leaning each topic and the most important if they manage the language. Also teachers should establish memory specific number of words to vocabulary and also provide to students connecting words to write paragraphs to improve writing skill and at the same time, grammar, punctuation, and so on. To conclude this practicum II, I learned new things such as I helped students that needed in order to pass the subject, at the same time, I learned to improve classroom management in real situations like monitory, organize the classroom, also I could remedy spontaneously situations like extra explanation, extra meaning words of a paragraph, used body language to give meanings words or expressions. I met hardworking students that would want to learn and I leaned to manage each mood of student and use different activities to cover each of them in order to learn new language. In sum up, I learned to feel as a real teacher avoiding the idea that I am a practitioner.

ReplyDeleteThe Teaching Practicum experience was great and I learned a lot from it. The first impression that I had the first day I arrived to the classroom has not been the best one. I considered that it would be a very difficult task to achieve helps those students but I really enjoyed it once I got use to. At first, I had 6 Students, the last day of classes I had 11 and I was shocked to see how the number drastically increased. However, myself motivation and my desire to help others have always pushed me to things in a better way.
ReplyDeleteOnce of the most important things that I learned with one of my students is that, English does not only need to be taught in a proper way but also by using the right method. I did have a hard time trying to adjust to a new modality and to help one of my students that lacked of the English Basic Knowledge. Even when he was not my Student but was Pablo’s my attention was mostly focused on Rene Marroquin. Because even when he was studying very hard, doing his best, practicing, reading, asking and motivated he usually has troubles with simple and complex grammatical structures in English. I was not able to help him as much as I wanted and I am still frustrated and asking myself what I could have done to help him in a proper manner.
During the whole development of the course, I notice that the most common problems were grammatical units, since the easiest ones to the most difficult. I really tried to explain the Grammatical Structures that were seen during classes as much as they needed. Also, I was always alert when someone was not getting the point to provide extra information or avoid using difficult words and change my words for simple ones to provide more aids to help them learn.
There is a moment while doing the practice that you no longer feel like someone who is learning how to do it but, you start to feel like a teacher. That moment also came to me, it was the second month. Usually, I am nervous since the class starts until it ends I do not know why but during the second moth, I had the chance to help my students not only with the topics reviewed during the class but also with extra material that they needed for their regular classes, I started to grade homework, making reports, analyzing the behavior of students during classes and then I realized, I am not a practitioner, I am a teacher. So that was the moment.
Now, referring to the people who are studying Languages in the University, I consider that one important aspect that could be implemented to improve their English Skills is before the regular major starts, provide at least, a Basic English course to the students that need it. I remember that when I started in the university before the regular classes started on January, I received a course during November that really helped me to develop my skills and that is why I consider it important.
My feelings and emotions from this experience are wide vary, I cannot summary with words all the things that I learned from this but the most important are: Have always a plan b, if something do not work, you have a second option. Be as organized as possible. If you have a mess in your desk, on your board, on your material, you will lose more time trying to fix that instead of teaching. Finally, do not cover the board while writing, this happened to me several times and I did not realize. I wish I could repeat this experience again and then to apply all the things that I have learned from it.
Helping Marroquin is a big challenge Joseph, I'm glad you paid attention to his weaknesses found professional help for him.
DeleteTeaching practicum II: remedial classes
ReplyDeleteThe teaching practicum II was developed through remedial classes in which students from Basic English participated. In the first day of classes, three students assisted, two of them were a little bit shy to participate during the class. On the contrary, the other learner was sharing her ideas about the content and helping the other students when they were having problems understanding directions. The last day, nine students attended the class and all of them were actively participating during the lesson.
During the teaching practicum, there was one student that particularly called my attention. Kriscia Mena is a really hardworking student that was always asking during the class about the content that was being developed. Kriscia showed a lot of interest during the course and she never missed a class because according to her; every single lesson was indispensable for the week she was not in remedial classes but in her normal schedule. Also, this student showed a big confidence in and outside the classroom to ask me about any content that she could not understand from her normal classes during the week.
Written grammatical structures and pronunciation were the major problems my students presented during the course. Exercises, in which learners had to look for the correct order of the statements was one of the methodologies I used to help them improve to analyze, differentiate and find the grammatical structure of different sentences. After that, students were ask to create their own statements and to produced the structures by talking about a specific situation in which they may have been involved. Pronunciation was practiced by producing dialogues using as much vocabulary as possible, when students mispronounced a word, I used to make the comparison between a pronunciation and another in order they could tell me which one was the correct.
The feeling of been a teacher is always important. I started to have the sensation of being a teacher when my students, after the class, started asking me about to solve their doubts. Also, when I felt confidence with them while I was in front of the class but more when I was given directions and they were accurately producing the activities.
Remedial classes have been indispensable and important for students who are in disadvantage with the language and that are facing problems with their grades because of the same reason. Teaching and Tourism have learners that are having troubles with English subjects and extra courses such as remedial classes will effectively help to these students to improve their skills in the language.
In conclusion, during teaching practicum II I have learned many didactics things such as, classroom management, lesson planning, material production and creation of objectives but the most important thing I have learned besides the ones above is that students count with their teachers to solve their doubts and to improve their weaknesses in the language and that is why I believe that tutors must give to the learners confidence for them to ask or to share their opinions when something is not doing well with the lesson.

The teaching practicum was a really good experience for me. The first day of classes that I arrive to the classroom there were just 2 students of the remedial classes of the UDB but the next class my group was other and I have 24 students of the Football forever I was in shock that they because I thought that I was not able to teach to many students but after some minutes I felt like I could do it I and I did it. After 2 days of classes my group was divided and I only have 12 students some of them were very shy but others were very participate students at the end of the course I have 8 students.
ReplyDeleteDuring the practicum there was a student that call my attention Adriana Fuentes she is a really hard worker students she is really responsible and very smart, she always want to help her students. I really admire that little girl.
One of the problems that the students face were the writing part since they were beginners they were not able to write paragraph their just write sentences but they have some troubles writing sentences.
I started to feel like a teacher since my students follow my instructions but sometimes I had troubles by given instructions and for them it was a little bit hard to get the ideas. But after a while they did the activities, it was really nice for me to saw that.
I recommend to continuous with the remedial classes because I think that it really helps students to improve their skills.
I learn a lot form this teaching practicum, for me it was amazing to teach because I could felt like a teacher, and I learn that a teach is not to stay in a classroom and tell students to work in a book, if not to learn with them I also learn that the feelings of the teacher the students also perceive that. But at the end it was a really nice experience for me.
Hi, guys! I was checking and I noticed that the link that I sent to teacher Yani cannot be open, so maybe you can try with this one:

It is the first one. Have nice vacations bye.
My teaching practicum II was developed with a group of boys that had some problems with their performance in the English class at school. When this course started I just have five students jose, Enrique, Alirio, Giovanny, and Perdomo. During the third and fourth week two more students joined to the class but they were not constants, sometimes they went to classes and sometimes they did not. In second to last class there were the same five students but in the last of my classes there was just one student. The reason might be that they were not notified that it was going to be the last class.
ReplyDeleteEvery single student in a class is special and requires different treat form the teacher. On my experience one that called my attention is named Jose. Jose was the first student that I met; I remember he was the only one that was in the classroom when I got there. Besides that, He was the only students that tried to speak in English most of the time during the class. I admired him because he was willing to learn. I remember he was always asking “ how do you say… in English?” and when he got the answer, he always tried to use in the future conversations. Also, I can say that he was very responsible and participative. In short, I will not forget the good student that Jose was, actually I will always remember all my students because each of them has something special.
During this practicum I felt as teacher since the very first class because I was the only one in charged in the classroom. It is not that I felt superior to students or the one who ruled. But, since the very first class my students star calling me teacher, asking me for permissions, asking me for help, they showed respect toward me. All these aspects made me feel professional, important. In brief since the beginning my students made me feel a real teacher. As all the teachers do, I got to face some inconveniences in my class. The main inconvenience that I faced was that students were not responsible. When my students were asked to present homework or do an activity if they wanted they did it, if not they just did not care about it. Due to this I started motivating by give them extra points or some other benefits like five minutes more of break. I think that was what they needed something or someone that encourage them to be responsible.
Regarding to students that has some problems with their English, I think a good idea to help these students would be to have a program of remedial classes. For example, the school of languages can coordinate one hour class daily for these students. I consider this would be so helpful for the students and the major itself.
Definitely, as an experience this teaching practicum II was invaluable. I learnt many things from it but there is one thing that marked my teaching experience or career. It is the fact that teachers have to deal with different circumstances that they cannot manage or control. There are some events that are out of the teachers’ hands but as teachers they have to come up with different ideas or solutions to avoid these problems affecting the students’ learning process. Sometimes being a teacher is very hard because everything that a teacher has to pass through but at the end that hard things are the one that give sense to this job.
